I am about to finish a rough draft of my first ms, ever. After I finish, I want to step away and read and study writing, then go back to it. I'm writing in first person. I know third person is the norm, but first seems to fit the flavor of my story.
Can anyone suggest some good books written in first person? I learn best by example.

If you want some literary examples of first-person...
Raymond Chandler's The Long Good-bye
Robert Grave's I, Claudius
Jean-Dominique Bauby's The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
None of them are Christian speculative fiction in genre, but they are examples of first person done well.

One of my favorite books ever is "Daughter of the Forest" by Juliet Marillier. It's also in first-person.

I remember one of the so-called classics back in high school that was written in a first-person journal format, based on a post-apocalyptic setting. Can't remember the title, and it's been long enough I can't remember if it was all that good or not.

Check out books by LE Modesitte Jr. In my opinion, he is the master at the First Person perspective.

I love Francine River's books. I will have to read that one. I love that her characters are not perfect. My characters are a little Mary Sue-ish. That might be a good thing for me though, since the rest of it is kinda weird.
