My experience here on the Anomaly has led me to believe that you all have the finest taste in entertainment choices. Thusly, I feel obligated to share with you a fantastic piece of theatre that will be coming to the small screen via your local PBS station (and viewers like you) on June 17th. For all you trailer watchers out there - www.chessinconcert.com/Chess is a brilliant musical written by the gentlemen from the illustrious 70s band, ABBA. Some of you may recognize a song from it which was made famous during the 80s - "One Night in Bangkok" by Murray Head. One of the only Broadway shows to have popular radio air play. The story is intricate and as one might guess, dramatic. It's just plain wonderful! ;D This version will be presented "in concert," starring Idina Menzel (on Broadway - Rent and Wicked, on film - Rent and Enchanted), Adam Pascal (again, of Rent fame), and Josh Groban. Quite a dynamic cast! Anyway, the theatre geek in me is so excited and I wanted to share the news. This will definitely be worth watching! June 17th - check your local listings!

The music for Chess in phenomenal. I got the Broadway soundtrack decades ago and had it all memorized.
The idea of chess as warfare in the Cold War--plus all the personal intrigue, plus the unveiled references to Bobby Fischer--was intoxicating.
Then I got the opportunity to see the musical in London--and they had changed some of the music. Even the music that was the same wasn't staged the way I had imagined. It was much better in my mind!
But it was still a wonderful show and I'll be eager to watch it on TV.
Thanks for the heads up!
Jeff

Okay - first of all, jealous that you've been to London. Second, jealous that you got to see Chess there! How neat - even if it wasn't what you had thought! Don't you wish the world would consult us before doing some of the stuff they do? ;D I was introduced to the American cast album while I was in high school. We had an educational touring show come to Rampart (in the Springs) and the techs were very into that show at the time. I've never seen the actual show. But I have seen bits and pieces performed. And like you (Jeff), I love the music. When I heard Josh sing the last few measures of "Anthem," I was sold on this production. I can't wait!!
