Hello everyone. My name is ReneƩ. I go by Waldenwriter here, because I have been working on some fantasy stuff set in a world I created named Walden.
I have just recently discovered the Christian fantasy/sci-fi writing community online, and I hope I can become more involved in it.
I'm still figuring out what genre is the best for me. I love reading fantasy and mythology so writing it comes easy to me, but I also like technology & computers a lot, which makes me want to write sci-fi.
I also worry about my work being too copycat - my Walden stuff so far seems too influenced by Tolkien (one of my favorite authors).
I hope to find some Christian fantasy and sci-fi to read as well, to get a feel for the market. For fantasy, I've read Narnia, and when I was younger I read the Journeys to Fayrah books by Bill Myers (now known as the Imager Chronicles) and the Empryion books by Stephen Lawhead, which were in our school library (I went to a Christian school growing up). The only Christian sci-fi I've read is C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy and Sigmund Brouwer's Mars Diaries series.
Most of the fantasy I've read is secular. I've read The Lord of the Rings trilogy (and some related books), the His Dark Materials trilogy, the Harry Potter series, and the fantasy books of Gail Carson Levine (Ella Enchanted, Fairest, etc). I'm also currently reading Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle. I haven't really read any sci-fi (other than an awful novelization of the first Star Wars prequel).
In short, I'm influenced largely in the fantasy department by Lewis and Tolkien. For sci-fi, I guess movies like Star Wars are my influence. I also watch anime & read manga, so that is an influence too.
I'm not sure what else to say about myself. You can find me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/people/Renee-Le-Vine/1077078149?sid=fd1524705bf1a6d734a3148e8cffa4e3&ref=search. Other than that, I'm on YouTube (at www.youtube.com/user/OwlPostMistress and www.youtube.com/user/BibliophileGirl) and a small language-learning social network called Livemocha.
I also have a personal blog. I also have a second blog I'm using to write a diary-style fanfic on.
That's pretty much it. Bye!
