Since I know some HTML, I have decided I am going to try making an author website to help build a "platform." So I have some questions.
1. Is this a good idea? Does it work for unpublished authors to do this?
2. Do author websites have to be yourname.com? I know they aren't always (Christopher Paolini's site is alagaesia.com, for instance, after the world where his novels are set).
3. Do I need a press page if I'm unpublished? (I saw one article that said author websites should have a press page).
4. One article I read said to list publications, but I'm unpublished novel-wise. I have, however, written an article for a website feature and a few things for an e-zine, had a story published in an anthology from a contest in 12th grade, wrote for my school yearbook, and in around 10th grade I think I got a poem published from a contest (I sent an e-mail to my old English teacher to confirm which anthology it is). Are these good things to include?
Just thought I'd get input from you guys on this.

Welcome, Waldenwriter. Randy Ingermanson has a website for newbie/learner writers. He discusses author websites at length. You may want to visit his site, if you haven't already. www.advancedfictionwriting.comHe recommends author websites, and goes into some detail about how to organize and run one.
