I am happy to announce that I just uploaded my author site, www.reneedlevine.com, to the web. It is finally live! Yay! I also have a personal site that has been up for a little bit. It can be found at: www.bibliophilegirl.netI made both sites by myself, using HTML code and Notepad - though some of the harder coding I had to look up in a book I have or on the internet. The only thing I have to figure out is my e-newsletter system. (The articles on websites and blogging by Randy Ingermanson that I read suggested you build "lead connections" by having an e-newsletter). I have one set up through a site called KickStartCart.com. I know that submitting a name and e-mail to the system works, since I tested it using one of my alternate e-mail addresses, and I got the autoresponder e-mails subscribers are supposed to get. Now I have to actually figure out how to make the newsletter using HTML (I think you use tables). I hope actually sending it out works, since even for a really basic plan I still have to pay $29 a month. So anyway, both those sites are live, so check them out!

I just use my e-mail program and a list. That makes life easier without having to pay for it. You can include a text blurb at the bottom that explains that a reply e-mail with "unsubscribe" in the subject gets one removed from the list.
Anyway, I'll link to both from my own site as soon as I am done typing said e-mail

Yeah, you're probably right. One nice thing about this service is it does most of the work for you, which does help. But I see your point.
Thanks for offering to link! I need all the promotion I can get. As it is, I still need to submit my sites to the major search engines (which I've decided to do myself rather than paying $7.19 a month for GoDaddy's Traffic Blazer to do it for me). Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Just go to any search engine and search for "add url to ______" blank being the name of the search engine. Be advised that Yahoo! is making changes in theirs, but just about anywhere you go that will work. Although; being linked to my site, which is already on google and Yahoo!, don't be too surprised if your site turns out to already be on it ^^.
If you don't mind my asking, who do you host your sites through?

Just go to any search engine and search for "add url to ______" blank being the name of the search engine. Be advised that Yahoo! is making changes in theirs, but just about anywhere you go that will work. Thanks for the heads up about Yahoo. Years ago, with one of my other sites (I've had sites up through free hosting services before - Angelfire, Geocities, and even a Christian service called HomeWithGod), I submitted it to something called the "Open Directory Project" which is supposed to submit your link to all the major search engines. It supposedly did so, but I didn't actually hear anything from them for like a year. So that's fishy. Although; being linked to my site, which is already on google and Yahoo!, don't be too surprised if your site turns out to already be on it ^^. That would be cool if it is. I suppose I could check either by searching for it or checking my site stats through GoDaddy's Site Analytics thing (which I paid to get) or through my account on a site called QuantCast (which provides site stats as well, but more detailed ones - like what your average visitor age range is). I tried to visit your site just now and it won't come up (I tried it in two different browsers, IE and Firefox). Is your server down or something? If you don't mind my asking, who do you host your sites through? No problem. I host both of my sites through GoDaddy.com. Their prices for domains and such are pretty reasonable. Though I've used free hosting services before, this time I decided it made more sense to have my own domain name.

*Curses* My computer must be down. It'll be back up in the next few hours if possible.

Ah it's up now. Although my author site (www.reneedlevine.com) isn't a blog (I have a blog on it, though) - you have it listed as "ReneƩ Le Vine's Blog."
I thought it being down might have to do with your internet signal; I was talking to my mother about you linking to my site and your site being down, and she said maybe your signal was intermittent over in Iraq.
Your site looks nice. It's cool how you write about your writing. I do that at my writing LiveJournal, although my most recent thoughts on writing I couldn't post cause my LiveJournal app on my iPod Touch (which I often post from) froze up and I lost the draft of my post. It must've been my attempts to use the landscape keyboard I supposedly gained with the new iPhone/iPod Touch OS update.
Thanks again for linking to my sites. I checked my Site Analytics reports and there were already referrals from your server (and from this forum also) to both sites. Not a lot of them, but some (the most referrals came from Bigfinder.de, a German search engine that somehow by some strange chance found my sites).

Actually, I'm hosting from my house in the States. My poor wife has to play web admin whenever it goes down... except she doesn't know how and I'm little better than she is, but I love the fact that I don't have to pay for it and wordpress makes it really easy, except when my IP address changes. That's what usually causes it to go down.

I just use GoDaddy as well. I host my WordPress (which hardly ever gets used) and a Wikimedia wiki for background story on a setting I'm creating. I also have a phpBB 3 forum I set up on there just to play with.

I just have this aversion to paying for something I could do. Besides, I have near unlimited freedom to do as I with with my site. I'll have even more when I get home and can migrate my site into a virtual box ^^. Ah, then bliss shall ensue.
