My niece and I were discussing SF the other day. She just graduated from high school and was giving me a ride back home after we helped my nephew (her cousin) and his wife move into their new apartment.
Discussion turned to Smallville, which she loves. As we do not have reception, I have to keep up from the wiki. I like this method. I can read an episode synopsis in 5 minutes, netting me 55. Brit wasn't happy about the death of Jimmie Olsen and how Clark closed the last show saying "Clark Kent is dead."
I said, "Yeah, is he going to fight crime as the Red Blur now?" (Referring to an episode where someone got a blurred picture of him superspeeding).
"I guess so!"
"Well, if Metropolis doesn't work out, he can always use that as his Hero Name in the world of Hero, Second Class." She's reading it.
(Note to self. Do not make Brit laugh that hard when she's driving!)

Actually, I think it is "the red-blue blur" he's called. And though Jimmy died, he sorta didn't. His camera was passed to his younger brother, who we're lead to believe will become Jimmy (somehow) later in life.
From what I've read, this version of Jimmy was destined for "deadness" since he first appeared. When compared to the Jimmy of the Superman mythos, he was way too old. Much of what is to come with the series will be attempting to make it all fit with the legend. How? I've got no idea, because there are alot of things that don't fit currently. Chloe, for instance. And everyone knowing Clark without his glasses on...

Yeah, as good as the Smallville series is, it's really screwing with what's been firmly established over the decades. Like, why have two brothers both named "Jimmy Olsen"? Just doesn't make sense. I was willing to overlook the age discrepancy with Jimmy as a way to give more respect to the character, but when they killed him and are indicating that his "younger" "brother" will take over being "Jimmy Olsen", it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Also, they didn't do enough of a fight between Clark and Doomsday. And they should have shown us when Clark buried him so we could have actually seen it happen. They just really cheated us on that.
I'm not too concerned about whether or not Chloe survives the series, because she could be a great addition to the Superman mythos once this series ends, but Good Lord!, enough with all the heavy "foreshadowing" and "hinting" toward her death about twice every season. Either kill her and get it over with or don't and make her a prominent figure in the comic book series as well. I don't really care which decision they make, I just wish they'd make one already. That's how I feel about it, what do you guys think?

It's true there wasn't much of a battle after a season of build up, but I wasn't really expecting them both to die, ala "the Death of Superman" storyline. That would be more messing with the canon. I do think what they did with the Doomsday backstory was good. I agree on the burial--cheated! In all, the season started alot stronger for me than it ended. I thought the first half was really good, and the second half was just so-so with a few stinkers (the whole Lana thread) and a few bright spots (the heroes from the future). I'm ambivalent about Chloe as a character now. I think they definitely need to shake things up, give the characters more room to grow. Many of the interactions--especially between Clark and Chloe--are becoming a bit too predictable. You know somewhere in the show Chloe's going to say something hard, Clark is going to give that troubled look and get defensive...stuff like that...

Anyone ever consider little brother is destined to become "peter parker"...after all Supe and Spidey are contemporaries, just in different towns.
