I wanted to offer up a prayer of thanks. Jamie, my wonderful, beautiful wife, just returned from visiting my parents. I was not looking forward to her taking this trip. Most of you know that Jamie and my Mom do not have the best of relationships. 99.9% of the fault lies at my mother's feet.
Before Jamie made this trip, we planned to settle in Killeen. While that isn't a problem for me, I was wondering how we'd look after my folks from that far away. The obvious answer is that we would adopt however many cats they have by then and move them into a nearby nursing home. Not something either of us really wanted to do, but I wasn't about to jeopardize my marriage and my family just because my Mom wants be to hyper-critical of everything Jamie does.
Watch this:
After the trip, Jamie has her heart set on settling in Shreveport to take care of my parents. She fell in love with the land they have out there the first time she saw it, but the specter of my mother prevented her from even considering living out there, till now.
Basically what changed was this: Jamie had a nice, sit down talk with Mom about how she felt about the way Mom was treating her. Jamie was able to do so with a calm head and, while she still hurt my Mom's feelings, the damage was minimal. By the time Jamie left, Mom was in tears, not from anger, but because she didn't want Jamie to leave. Jamie didn't want to go either.
Sadly, the animals needed to be picked up from the kennels, and Lord Emperor Nehemiah I and Empress Casandra the Magnificent, her words, need to have their royal litter pans cleaned, the sacred watter replenished, and the Imperial Edibles refilled. All this wouldn't have prevented her from staying, since any minimally trained servant could perform many of the same duties, but the dogs can't stay at Pouncing Paws any longer because there won't be room.
All that said, my praise is for the repaired relationship between my Mom and Jamie, Jamie's safe deliverance to Shreveport and back, and Jamie's much decreased stress levels. I know that it's only a matter of time before Mom starts up again, but I doubt she'll be on the same track or as bad as before.
I know that some of you have been praying for this very thing, and I thank you for your prayers. They've been answered.
Oh, and one final thing: at chapel today, there were no prayer requests. Usually someone will have something or other that needs prayer, but no one volunteered anything. I'm not sure if this is a praise that everyone seems to be fine, or a prayer for those which weren't spoken. Both, I suppose, but thought I'd share that.
