I recently picked up a copy of the 2010 Novel and Short Story Writer's Market, to get a feel for more potential publishers and agents than are listed in my copy of the 2009 Christian Writer's Market Guide. I've been going through it, underlining publishers to check out, and I have noticed something somewhat shocking. There are a TON of publishers that publish either erotica and/or gay and lesbian books! I suppose that's neither here nor there, but the real shocking thing is that some of those SAME PUBLISHERS also publish religious work. That's right, religious work (which in this book generally means Christian, though a couple Mormon presses and some Paganist-related presses are categorized as "religious" too).
I don't know about you, but I don't see how they could print such vastly different works through the same publishing house, unless they use an imprint. It just seems weird. What do you guys think?

From a market and profit standpoint, it's a good idea. If any one market dips, the opposite number will rise. Add to that that the only thing that erotica and Christian fiction have in common is a very low budget necessary. Well... it works out in then end. For them, anyway.

Certainly Shocking. And I do agree that from a market standpoint it makes sense; however, I think in the REAL end it will not work out for them. I'm pretty sure that when they stand before Jesus they'll be judged for unleshing such vastly different views to the public...maybe I'm wrong...but I'm fairly certain he'll frown on in.
