Ok, I didn't want to have to do this, but it's been a whole week so I'm desperate. I posted the first chapter of my current novel-in-progress on the 12th (8 DAYS AGO) in the Anomalous Readings section of this forum, and NO ONE HAS PROVIDED FEEDBACK. NO ONE. I really would like feedback. That's why I posted it there. I don't mean to rant like this, but I can't help it. I even ended up slightly venting about it on my writing YouTube, which I'm kind of embarrassed about. I know I sound like a whining child, being all desperate and ranting and cutting my great sig quote short so I could link to my story's thread in hopes SOMEBODY would get the hint. The fact that the most recent meeting of the writing workshop club at my school got cancelled I think has made me more desperate. So anyway, please forgive my ranting (I hope I don't get banned for ranting - which happens on some forums unless you post in a category where they allow rants), and I hope you enjoy my story.

Just keep writing and finish it. I read it the other day but am so busy with my own things that I didn't really take the time to analyze it. And don't sweat people not having reviewed it. I've got a sample of a short story up that I asked people to look over and send me an e-mail in order to review the whole thing and I only got two responses. The people on here are just like you, so why haven't you reviewed my short story yet? Busy with your own things? Yeah, that's what I thought. It's no big deal, but I definitely understand where you're coming from. Just finish your manuscript and utilize Jeff's editing services (that he charges for) which he was doing before starting MLP anyway and you'll have an expert in the field give you excellent advice on your work. Just click over to www.wherethemapends.com and you should find the services I was talking about.

Hey WR, I just wanted to say I did see that you had an excerpt posted, and I wasn't really sure if I should crit it or not, because the "rules" I read regarding postings at this link : wherethemapends.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=newcollaborative&thread=107seemed to say that we shouldn't post novel excerpts, but only short stories. Now, I freely admit, I haven't been around for very long, so perhaps I'm not understanding Jeff's intentions properly. All that being said, I feel your pain on seeking feedback and getting a lot of silence in return. You're smart to seek every way you can to avoid writing in a vacuum. Maybe I'll get a chance to take a peek over there again, but if I don't, I do pray that the right critiquer will hit your thread and give you some awesome input.

Oh, are those the rules? I guess I should've read those first. My bad. I guess I thought it was ok because veryblessedmom's "Earth Painter" story (which looks like it will be a novel) is posted in there and it got feedback. Plus, this was my first time posting something in that forum, so I didn't know the protocol. Sorry if I broke the rules there. I guess it's my own fault I'm not getting feedback then. Thanks also, dizzyjam, for suggesting the editing services. I will look into those.

Hey, waldenwriter,
It's been really hectic with so many launchings-- TC2, BTC, MPL's Fall line, and the up-coming MPL Select competition. I'm ashamed to admit I didn't even notice that no one had responded yet to your post. I'm sorry, gal -- I, too, know how frustrating a lack of feedback can be.
I'm wrapping up a couple of writing projects (as well as covering vacationers' hours at work); but I read what you posted this evening and should be able to give you a critique this upcoming weekend. Keep an eye on your PM's -- I don't usually post critiques without giving the author a preview and the decision whether s/he wants it posted or not.
I think the rules are more about limiting the length so as to not tie up too much space on one posting or do sad and nasty things to the software. Many of us have posted prologues or chapter exerpts to "test the waters" or to get feedback on specific issues. That seems to be okay; but if something gets too lengthy, I think Jeff or one of other administrators will rein it in.
becky, in the past, it's been okay to critique the short exerpts -- a few of them sparked some lively conversations.

Oh, good! I'm glad to hear there doesn't seem to be a blanket prohibition of posting excerpts. Now, I can see if somebody put up a dozen posts to cover the first third of their novel or something...yeah, that would be something to nip. But if precedent says "okay" to a reasonable word count, whether novel excerpt or short story, then that's great. I'm so phobic about rules.
