1. Sometimes, readers are won one at time. Don’t be afraid to talk to new people and tell them about your book. And don’t forget to talk to your oldest friends and family. They could be a potential buyer/reader as well.
2. As I discovered after Conquest, people really do go look you up on the net. They do ‘friend’ you on Facebook. They will stop you after a panel and want to talk. Best advice I got is once you’re on the other side of the table, be willing to talk to struggling writers. They want to know ‘how’ you made it and what advice you can give them. Be generous with you time. After all, you, too, once stopped the pros to talk to them, now it’s your turn to do the same. Particularly in SF because it’s expected that our writing heroes will talk with us. I’ve rarely seen a pro ‘not’ take time to talk to a fan or another potential writer.
3. It’s also been suggested you have an email list to notify your readers of upcoming releases. You can also use a blog, if you have one, your website, Facebook, Twitter, My Space, or whatever web presence you have to do the same.
