Glad to hear your father-in-law is better. I'll still keep him in my prayers while he's recovering.
A little over two years ago, I was laid-off from a job that kept my arthritises aggressively active. I won't bore you with details; but the circumstances surrounding the lay-off assured me God's hand controlled it. Within two months, the arthritis settled down to the point where I no longer need a cane (among other things!). By the way, I am 2 and a half years cane free!
This, however, was not a healing -- it was a deliverance. I still have flare-ups when I bite off more than I can chew or go in a direction that's not in His personal plan for me. He knows I don't always have good sense when it comes to, say, volunteering for something at church just because they need extra people rather than specifically needing the gifts He gave me. I'm the kind of person willing to stand in the gap until the relief column arrives; but I see that sometimes there is no relief column and I'm really standing in the way of a lesson God wants someone else to learn. Learning some of this in hindsight has restructured my prayer life, too.
I don't know if you'll find this helpful or encouraging; but be assured God's doing what He knows is best for you. And you remain in my prayers.

Update:
I saw my father-in-law today. He was doing well enough to wear a shoe again, but he couldn't lace it up.
I thought I was doing better yesterday as I was able to go the whole day without painkillers by using streaches. Today the pain got worse and I had to fall back on the meds to function. Oh well, I guess some days are like that.

Update:
I fiunally figured out how to keep my shoulder from hurting. Basically I have to keep tension pulling my arm away from the socket at all times. Needless to say this is really inconvienient, but better than being in severe pain all the time. Unfortunately my whole right arm is partially numb, especially my index finger. I don't know why or how to solve my shoulder pain permanently, but at least I can function now.

What were the results of the latest X-rays? And do you have an appointment yet with the orthopedic surgeon?

I'm going to try and get X-rays Monday or Tuesday, depending on when I can arrange a ride. Our family van's igniter died Friday while taking my daughter to work. To make things even more fun, I fell last night and re-dislocated my shoulder, but I got it back in this morning.
My father-in-law is doing much better. He's pretty tough for a man in his 80's.

Scintor, do not dislocate body parts for fun. Even when you put them back, you will regret it.

Update: Metalikahn: I wish I had known that before I fell over Well, I got irriadited and perforated today (X-rays and blood tests.) I now only have to wait until the 24th for my appointment with the Orthopedic Surgeon. Since I fell the other night, the numbness in my right arm has gotten worse. The pain levels have gone down, but now I have a choice of being in pain or letting my right arm go to sleep. It has become more difficult to drive or ride in a car for any length of time. The lack of ability to change positions and activities seems to make the pain much worse. It's hard to keep my spirits up with constant pain, so any prayers are really appreciated. (On the other hand, whining always makes things worse, so I try to keep it to a minimum.) Scincerely, Scintor@aol.com AKA Mark McDonald

I hope they find SOMETHING that helps you from all those tests and pictures.

I'm just looking at it as practice for getting old. I'm hoping to become a grandpa sometime soon (as I have one married daughter,) so I have to get ready for the bad as well as the good. Scincerely, Scintor@aol.com AKA Mark McDonald

Dude, you become a grandpa before I become a father, and I'm going to have to do some serious self-evaluation.... How's the arm?

I'm giving up on my arm ever getting better and giving up on doctors completely. I have not had a doctor do anything useful for me in litterally ten years. The only useful thing I have gotten from the medical establishment is medications and my wife is 50 times better at knowing what to dispense than those moronic MDs.
I'm done wasting my family's money on these hacks! If the bloodflow to my arm stops because I lay on it wrong and it needs amputating, so be it! I'll sharpen the axe.

Sorry about that. I had a bit of an episode there. That was try three and was the tamest of the bunch. I'm doing better now.
What I failed to mention was that my 200 lb 9 year old leaned over on a stool and brought it down right on my toes. It seems to have broken only one of them. I've just been having a season to remember.
I'm going to go to physical therapy as soon as I can schedule it and hopefully that will make things better.

Did the x-rays and bloodwork you had show anything? Soft tissue damage, such as tendons and ligaments, take a lot longer to heal than bones. You toe will probably feel better sooner than your arm -- that's been going on for quite a while. Funny thing -- you don't really think about toes much, they're way down there at the far end of your leg; but when they hurt, they can make everything else ache, too, because you have to compensate for gimping with the rest of you. Probably not too encouraging, but I do know how you feel. It's hard to see the "why" when you're in the middle of a battle with pain; but God has a reason for allowing you to experience it. Still praying for you.

Broke my hand today. Makes it difficult to type, and can't do my job. Going to be an interesting few weeks.
