Hi Bethany J.,
I don't like the young boy going on his first dragon hunt angle.
I do like the dragons living in an icy climate - their fire breathing abilities essential to their survival. It's a great idea and would work told from their viewpoint. Give them a problem to solve then how they succeeded or not, happy endings are not required. Humans aren't either. It makes the story harder to tell, but more original.
Just my thoughts.

Dana: How about a story about a kitsune and a griffin trying to break a dragon out of prison (read: a zoo), and the dragon can only breathe fire if he eats chili peppers first?

Good idea, Kessie. It's a bit different and definitely along the lines of what I'm looking for.

Four stories now in. Two were pitched, one I received a query. Last what I call a blind submission, which I have nothing against. I do many of those myself.

Publisher tonight gave me an idea. She asked about sending a second story, which I approved but it will go on my 'reserve' list. What that means is that if I don't get enough good pieces I may pull from that pile.
Or, we will hold good stories for a possible second 'Different Dragons'.
If you would like to submit two stories, one for consideration and one places on the reserve list, please query me. Also, pitch the idea for both so I know what to expect. I will only accept so many, so get email me ASAP if you're interested.
Thanks!

Oh good! As popular as this anthology seems to be, I was kind of hoping there might be a second one later on.

Dana;
I have three dragon stories from the same "world".
One is prehistory that introduces the primary indigenous draconic race and how all of the other Draconic races came to be on the planet.
One is the story I'm going to send in about the first contact between the Human colonists and the dominant draconic race of this planet (midspan in "recorded history").
The third is near the end of time when the cornered remnant of free Humans, their draconic and other allied races confront the would be Anti-Christ figure (a giant "mythyic" dragon from Earth) in a cataclysmic battle. The dominant draconic race from that planet play a pivotal role in that battle and the fate of creation.
Do you see any way you could use a triad of stories about the same draconic race (since dragons live forever some of the same individual POVC dragons are in all three).

Dave,
What is the total or estimated length of all three stories?

Dana;
The versions I have are very rough drafts. These are some of my earliest projects; so the wordcounts will change.
However, the current drafts are 10k, 8k and 5k respectively.
The total is @ 24.3k

Okay. I suggest polishing them up and sending them all to me.
I do have another novella that has been submitted. Since CH is talking about a possible second DD antho - let's just say the door is wide open.

Okay, I'll do my best to get them to you.
When would you like to see these three dragon stories? Also, do you still want me to submit the story I pitched earlier (one of these three) for the anthology?
I've joined the TC2 team as an editor, so this month I'm working on the October edition edits. If you need these stories sooner I'll just have to try to fit the polishing in.

Dave - Deadline for DD is December 31st, 2012. So anytime you get them to me is fine.
To explain - I might include a novella as part of the anthology - which is why I want you to send all three. Also, CH might be in the market to publish the novella by itself. I haven't talked with her about yours but I have another that came in which she expressed a possible interest in doing that.
Basically, it all depends on how many stories come in. Since most writers sneak in under the deadline - I won't know the total until after submissions closes.

Dana;
I'll try to get them in during October. Some "need a lot of work" ;D they were some of my earliest projects back when I started writing.

Dave,
No problem. As I said, submission deadline is 12/31/2012. I won't start reading until then.
